STD screening

The nurse clinicians at the GMF Mercier can screen for sexually transmitted and blood-borne infections (STBBIs) for the asymptomatic clientele of GMF Mercier. The samples are taken by cotton swab from the cervix or urethra, or by a urine sample for the detection of gonorrhea or chlamydia. A blood test is necessary when screening for syphilis, HIV or hepatitis. The nurse clinician will inform you of the symptoms to be monitored for these infections and will review with you how to prevent these sexually transmitted infections. Make an appointment with a nurse clinician directly. An appointment with a doctor is not necessary unless you are  symptomatic; urinary burning, urethral discharge, pelvic pain, or abnormal bleeding.
